...than snow days!

as expected, there's no way i'll be able to drive to the hospital safely, without spinning out or getting stuck in a 5 foot high snow bank. therefore, i have a snow day! i was sure when i was done with classes at marquette, i was also done with snow days. not so! everywhere on the news they're advising people to stay inside and not drive. don't have to ask me twice! so instead of working today, i'll be watching episodes of house and re-reading The Shack.

"There is something joyful about storms that interrupt routine. Snow or freezing rain suddenly releases you from expectations, performance demands, and the tyranny of appointments and schedules. And unlike illness, it is largely a corporate rather than an individual experience. One can almost hear a unified sigh rise from the nearby city and surrounding countryside where Nature has intervened to give respite to the weary humans slogging it out within her purview. All those affected this way are united by a mutual excuse, and the heart is suddenly and unexpectedly a little giddy. There will be no apologies needed for not showing up to some commitment or other. Everyone understands and shares in the singular justification, and the sudden alleviation of the pressure to produce makes the heart merry."
- The Shack, by William P. Young

happy snow day!

...than funny things kids say (or draw i guess).

not sure where this originally came from, but it made me giggle.

thanks ep.

...than my brother getting it.

for the past 5 months i've been living with my brother and two of his friends. i've learned to put up with dished in the sink and toilet seats up and general messes, but i walked in from work the other day and i found this note on the coffee table from my brother for another one of our roommates.

made my day.

...than funny fart stories.

at my current clinical i work with a lot of old people. and sometimes they fart. and maybe i'm immature because i think farts are funny, but sometimes it's really hard not to giggle.

i found this post the other day on dooce.com, a new blog i've started to read. i laughed out loud at it and decided i had to share it.

...than green smoothies.

i've been into smoothies for a while. for a while i was into putting carrots into my smoothies. they blended well and were just another way to pack in some extra veggies.

it was time to move on. recently i read in Real Simple (my new favorite magazine, since apparently i have the same interests as 35 year old housewives) about how kale is a superfood, filled with beta-carotene, vit C, calcium and antioxidants. now, before this i didn't have any thoughts about kale. didn't really know what it was. but then i read how it's great to go in smoothies. i love smoothies! it goes great in my strawberry mango smoothie. the only downside is that it makes my smoothie green, which makes me feel like a health nut who drinks wheat grass and beet juice.

green strawberry mango smoothie:
frozen strawberries
frozen banana
frozen mango
kefir lowfat strawberry greek yogurt
naked mighty mango juice
fresh mango
a few leaves of blanched and frozen kale

...than ethan leonard

I'm so happy to announce that my best friend Jess and her husband, Ben, welcomed their first baby into the world today at 7:38am. At 7lb 10oz, Ethan Leonard is perfect and healthy!

Mom and baby are doing great.

My duties now begin. I told Jess I'd feed him late at night when I stay at their house and get in at 2am, cut his nails, teach him how to say 'shit, bitch' and always cut up his food.

I can't wait to meet him this weekend! I'm sure I'll fall in love with him right away!

...than a fresh start

New year, decided I needed to start a new blog. I got tired of my old one and had a hard time formatting it how I wanted - so I decided to come here!

I've decided that I need something to remind me of the small things that bring happiness to me crazy, hectic, often stressful days.

Here it goes...
